"I put the past into the ground,
I saw the future as a cloud.
If there’s still time to turn around, I’m going to.
It’s just, one day I fell asleep,
and all day, all night I dream.
I am the first one I deceive,
if I can make myself believe the rest is easy."
"Kids are walkin’ around the hallway,
plagued by pain in their heart.
A world so hateful,
some would rather die
than be who they are.
And a certificate on paper,
isn’t gonna solve it all,
but it’s a damn good place to start."
I have such a envy for this stranger lying next to me, who awakes in the night and slips out into the pre-dawn light. With no words, a clean escape, no promises or messes made, and chalks it all up to mistake, mistake, mistake.
And there are no tears, just pity and fear. No vast ravine, right in between.
A storm at sea the bow cracked and I was capsizing, and I sunk below where I swore I would never go. If you can’t stand in place you can’t tell there’s walking away, from who remains, who stays, who stays, who stays.
And there are no tears, just pity and fear. No vast ravine, right in between.
Spare no tears, just pity and fear, And I recall, the push more than the fall, the push more than the fall.
How the hell could I have been so dumb? As an outspoken man with a well sharpened tongue, I sorta thought I’d start to change with age but I’ve just stayed the same. Call me crazy, but today I’m embracing facts: a past full of mistakes which I can’t take back. It’s a cryin’ shame that I’d drag this out just to pass the blame.
"If you work all day you keep the rhythm through the night,
if you work all night you keep the rhythm through the day.
If you sell that soul you’ll be burning up right,
if you ain’t got no soul, that’s fine, alrightt."
"Holy water cannot help you now.
See I’ve had to burn your kingdom down,
and no rivers and no lakes can put the fire out.
I’m gonna raise the stakes, I’m gonna smoke you out."
“I walked into the room dripping in gold, yeah, dripping in gold. I walked into the room dripping in gold, dripping in gold. A wave of heads did turn, or so I’ve been told, or so I’ve been told. My heart broke when I saw you kept your gaze controlled, oh I cannot solve.
Why can’t you want me like the other boys do? They stare at me while I stare at you. Why can’t I keep you safe as my own? One moment I have you the next you are gone. Rehearsed steps on an empty stage, that boy’s got my heart in a silver cage. Why can’t you want me like the other boys do? They stare at me while I crave you.”
"Everything that happens,
is supposed to be.
And it’s all predetermined;
can’t change your destiny.
Guess I’ll just keep moving,
someday maybe I’ll get to where I’m going."
It all started with a stumble, and I get old and I get humble. The sky cracked a million ways, making me blind. And as the trees grew higher and higher, and the fish began to fly, I went and stole some wings, And thought why can’t I…
…get in the sunrise, I want to get in the sunrise.
Put the world upon your shoulder, I’ll stay young while I watch everyone getting older. You can take a million years, out of my head. But I’m starting to lose my place, In the circles that I trace. And if I let go only then, will my face…
…get in the sunrise, I want to get in the sunrise.
